Roee Rosen: The Standard Edition, 2024
A sequence of 24 book covers modelled on the canonical Hogarth Press edition of Sigmund Freud’s works (1953–1974). Freud’s name and titles are replaced with alternatives devised by the artist. Each volume appears twice: once typographic, once illustrated. Each right-hand page presents a cover; the following page repeats the same shade of blue, stripped of image and text. This alternating rhythm extends throughout the book. The shifting blues reference the different ages of the historical Standard Edition, translating its material history into a chromatic system.
Published in conjunction with the solo exhibition at Kunstverein Hannover.
With an introduction by Krzysztof Kościuczuk and Christoph Platz-Gallus.
Image processing developed in collaboration with Carsten Humme.
Hardcover, offset print, 104 pages, 14 × 22 cm, Distanz Verlag, 2024.
